Wreck of the Willaurie, Nassau

The Willaurie is one of our favorite artificial reefs. It was used in the recent “Bollywood” film “Blue” which is soon to be released.

The Willaurie Wreck is a 140” former water barge resting in a semi-sand area surrounded by tongue and grove reef formations. This wreck was intentionally sunk in 1986 as an artificial reef dive site. A large amount of red and orange encrusting corals have attached to the wreck, making it vibrant in colour. The surrounding reef is made up of a variety of soft and hard coral. Schools of Cubera Snapper, Master fish and Nassau Grouper are seen here, with an occasional Turtle and Conch.
