Brazil, Fernando Noronha

The best place for diving in Brazil is Fernando de Noronha, a group of islands in the Brazilian northeast coast, near Natal, north of Recife. Fernando de Noronha is a sanctuary of marine life and an all year round place for diving.

Fernando de Noronha is a protected area, with scarce accommodation, far from the main tourist centers, and those reasons make the place rather expensive.

Fernando de Noronha is an island where many divers from all over the world want to meet. It offers great diving opportunities and an impressing natural environment. In addition to this, Fernando de Noronha has a historic patrimony to visit.

With warm water, dives with depth of 30 or 40 meters can be done agreeably without the necessity of appropriate clothes.

One of the best dives to do is at Ilha do Meio, which has some caves with the presence of sharks. Another nice place to dive is Canal da Rata, ideal for dives with stream.  Cagarras offers deep dives. Pontal do Norte is excellent for skilful scuba divers. This region offers many sorts of dives and a large variety of sea animals to be seen.

Fernando de Noronha is a wonderful place to visit. It is a small piece of heaven that can be found on the earth. There, you can practice scuba diving, observing the great amount of animals, relax on the beat and enjoy the transparent sea.

The 21 islands of Fernando de Noronha have a total area of 26 km². The main island, of the same name, is the only inhabited one, and at 17 km² is the largest. Around half the island is designated the Fernando de Noronha National Marine Park, an Environmental Protection Area (APA) since 1988. The purpose of the Marine Park is to protect the local fauna, flora and remaining natural resources, and it also includes all secondary islands.

Its total area extends over 112,7 km². There are five predefined visitor trails that may be taken, with prior authorization from the IBAMA (the Brazilian Environmental Protection Agency).

The archipelago has a population of approximately 2,100 people.

Tourism is developed in a sustainable manner, keeping the balance between man and nature in one of the most important ecological sanctuaries in the world. Noronha has good facilities:

branches of banks, a police station, post office, tourism information office, hospital, Internet access, military police forces, a port, weather information, hotels and inns. In some inns, visitors can stay with local inhabitants, who have opened their houses for basic visitor accommodation.
